Artist's Statement

I believe there is much room for exploration in the continually expanding idioms for art. My current work draws on my background of painting, drawing, and printmaking and translates those media on a digital drawing tablet on the computer. These pieces have become something other than paintings or hand pulled prints, although they were created using the same mental processes that I go through when I set blank canvas, paper, or plate in front of me. They are prints but they are not made with a plate and a press. They are printed with a high-end giclée printer.

I am attempting to express myself within a relevant art historical context. These series relate directly to art that has been produced through more traditional media, but they take advantage of a relatively newer technology that has characteristics of its’ own. I don't see it as a replacement for mezzotints, lithographs, serigraphs, or engravings. I see it as a relatively new medium that became available through newer technology,

just as all other media have come to exist.

My advanced education in art began at the Polytechnical Institute of Malta. I then earned a B.A. in art from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

I then studied printmaking under Mauricio Lasansky at the University of Iowa. I was accepted into the graduate program at the

University of Wisconsin in Madison where I earned an M.A. and an M.F.A. in painting.
